BUDAPEST, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Budapest Zoo's Biodome under construction was named Europe's best leisure building of 2018, according to a statement by the architect office responsible for the project published here on Thursday.
"The newest building of the Budapest Zoological Garden, the 'Biodome of the Pannon Park', was chosen as the best leisure building in Europe at this year's International Property Awards ceremony," the architect bureau Paulinyi-Reith and Partners announced.
"The building of Biodome will house exotic animals from habitats with warmer climates. The facility's indoor and outdoor parks, set to be completed by 2020, will present the ancient flora and fauna of the Carpathian Basin by exhibiting present-day descendants of plants and animals that occupied this area 10-12 million years ago," the bureau said.
The area of the Budapest Zoo is being expanded with the area of the former Amusement Park of Budapest, thus creating the Pannon Park complex. The main attraction of Pannon Park will be the Biodome, with a regulated and living-building like inner environment and a hall structure with a large floor area and large room height.
This building will be suitable for showcasing the ecosystem where animals live all year round. The development also includes exterior yards, a main entrance pavilion and a new service and storage building.
The existing buildings in the area were partly demolished, except for heritage buildings like the merry-go-round, the roller coaster and the fairy tale boats, which will be operated by Budapest Zoo.
The building will have three main elements: the Pannon Sea Aquarium, the Pannon Primeval Forest and the Visitor Centre.
