Brunei hosts 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 10th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-Northern Territory East Asian Growth Area (BIMPNT-EAGA) Friendship Games opened here on Friday, with ten teams from four regional countries and the Northern Territory of Australia competing for 87 gold medals.

Hosts Brunei grabbed two gold medals in Malay martial arts and two in Chinese martial arts respectively, currently placing the country fourth in the medal tally after Australia's Northern Territory, Sabah of Malaysia and Mindanao of the Philippines.

The Games will be held from 7 to 9 December. The eight events to be contested are aquatics, lawn bowls, karatedo, athletics, Malay martial arts, sepak takraw, taekwondo and Chinese martial arts.

This is the 10th edition of the biennial sporting event, held in rotation between the four BIMP-EAGA member countries. The last Games were held in Indonesia in December 2016, while Brunei last hosted the tournament - its sixth edition - in November 2008.
