BUDAPEST, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- More than half of the Hungarians expected that self-driving cars would be widely available in the future, and 72 percent of respondents would be willing to buy artificial intelligence-driven vehicles, according to a survey published here on Thursday.

"According to the survey, 79 percent of Hungarian men would buy a self-driving car, and the ratio is also close to two-thirds among women," according to the NMS Market Research Company.

"Eight out of ten respondents would be happy to choose the best route with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), and more than half of the respondents would involve AI in assessing different traffic violations," according to NMS.

Nearly half of the Hungarians said that they would undergo a surgery performed by a robot (54 percent for men and 36 percent for women). In warfare, however, only 6 percent would like to see technology powered by AI.

Most Hungarians say AI would make work more efficient in general, spare routine tasks, increase service levels, mitigate traffic jams, and facilitate travel and housework. Only 23 percent of the researchers in the survey called AI to be a serious threat to mankind.

The survey has been conducted in a representative sample of 2,035 people aged 18-65 between Sept. 19 and Oct. 1.
