NEW DELHI, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- India on Tuesday called for extending cooperation with Turkey through greater interaction among government agricultural institutions, experts, scientists and agro-business.
The country's Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh held talks with visiting Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan in New Delhi and urged both sides to prioritize the sectors for agri-cooperation.
The minister said that the Narendra Modi government had resolved to double farmers' income by the year 2022 through a series of focused programs, including "Soil Health Card," organic farming, crop insurance, irrigation, e-NAM and focus on strengthening post-harvest management so as to ensure better returns to the farmers.
He further stated that India had made tremendous progress in agriculture and allied sectors in the last few years. "India has achieved food security and become a net exporter of agriculture commodities," he said in a statement issued by his ministry.
