TRIPOLI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq on Wednesday met with French Ambassador to Libya Beatrice du Hellen to discuss bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, du Hellen expressed hope for the return of French companies to resume projects of energy, healthcare, and infrastructure, said a statement of the Libyan prime minister's information and communication department.

Most foreign companies in Libya have left since 2014 when violent clashes between rival armed groups broke out in the capital Tripoli, leading to lingering political division across the country.

Meanwhile, Maiteeq announced the start of preparations for the Libyan-French economic conference to be held at the end of the first quarter of 2019.

The Libyan official expressed gratitude for France's support to the Libyan government and hope for further cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
