YANGON, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized an illegal consignment of raw jade stones weighing 3.781 tons in the northernmost state of Mohnyin and Kachin, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.

The seizure was made by local police on Tuesday when they stopped and searched a six-wheeled truck near Hopin toll gate, finding 650 pieces of illegally smuggled jade stones.

The driver and two other persons on board were arrested and charged by the police under the country's Gemstone Law.

Earlier, the authorities had also confiscated 12 tons of raw jade stones illegally transported to the city of Myitkyina from Namti, on Dec. 14 when they intercepted and searched a 12-wheeled truck at a checkpoint.

The illegal raw jade stones were found packed in 300 bags and hidden in a secret space between the car body and the frame.
