"Traitors, mercenaries" behind sabotage acts in Sudan: president

KHARTOUM, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday accused those who exploit the current living difficulty of committing sabotage acts as "traitors and mercenaries" serving the interests of Sudan's enemies.

Al-Bashir made the remarks when addressing a popular gathering in Wad al-Haddad locality in Sudan's Gezira State, where he vowed to press ahead with the development of the country to achieve aspirations of the citizens.

He further reiterated Sudan's adherence to its religion and dignity which would not be sold at any price.

Earlier in the day, al-Bashir began a visit to Gezira State in central Sudan to inaugurate a number of development projects.

Various Sudanese cities, including the capital Khartoum, have been witnessing popular protests against the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
