KABUL, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Five armed militants were killed after Afghan Special Operations Forces launched airstrikes in two eastern Afghan provinces, the command of special forces said Wednesday.

In one strike, three prominent Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Tuesday following an airstrike in Pachir Wa Agam district of Nangarhar province, Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps (ANASOC) said in a statement.

Two important members of Taliban militant group were killed in Mohammad Agha district of neighboring Logar province, according to the statement.

The sorties were conducted based on accurate tip-offs and no civilian was hurt during the raids, the statement added.

Afghan security forces, backed by the U.S.-led NATO coalition troops, have increased ground and air offensives against militants within the past few months as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the Central Asian country.

The militant groups have not made a comment so far on the report.
