SINGAPORE, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.5 percent or 15.33 points to close at 3,068.76.
A total of 519.5 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 361.2 million Singaporean dollars (about 264.48 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 206 to 123.
The STI index went up 0.29 percent or 8.69 points to close at 3,053.43 last Friday.
It is a half-day trading day on Monday for stock trading at Singapore Exchange, and the trading will be suspended on Tuesday due to the New Year holiday.
