Fire, explosion fatalities drop in Vietnam in 2018

HO CHI MINH CITY, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- A total of 4,075 fires and explosions happened across Vietnam in 2018, killing 112 people and injuring 263 others.

The fires and explosions also caused property losses of some 1,700 billion Vietnamese dong (73.9 million U.S. dollars), the Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Tuesday.

In 2017, the Southeast Asian nation suffered 4,114 fires and explosions, which left 119 people dead and 270 others injured, and caused losses of 2,000 billion Vietnamese dong (86.9 million U.S. dollars).

In 2018, natural disasters, mainly typhoons, floods and landslides, killed or left missing 218 people, injured 157 others, and left behind 15,700 billion Vietnamese dong (682.6 million U.S. dollars) in property losses, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
