KHARTOUM, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese parliament on Wednesday agreed on two presidential decrees extending state of emergency in Kassala State in eastern Sudan and North Kordofan State in western Sudan, Ashorooq net reported.
The parliament approved the extension of the state of emergency in the two states until June 20, 2019, the report said.
The parliament attributed the reasons behind the extension to existence of human, weapons and drug trafficking networks and presence of quantities of weapons amid the social components in Kassala State, it added.
It said that the reasons also include smuggling of strategic goods out of the country as well as the spread of unlicensed vehicles besides crossing of some rebel elements which threatened security and stability in North Kordofan state.
On Dec. 30, 2017, Sudanese President al-Bashir issued a decree declaring state of emergency in North Kordofan and Kassala states.
