ACCRA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Ghana Immigration Service(GIS) is ready to deepen its collaboration with China in order to instill efficiency into the work of its officials, Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Operations Laud Kwasi Ofori-Afrifa said here on Friday.

In his keynote speech at the graduation ceremony of 38 officers of the service who have passed out of the basic Chinese language proficiency course run by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, the officer reiterated the importance of language proficiency for immigration officials.

"For us, since Chinese language is one of the dominant languages in the world today, and as we deal with huge numbers of Chinese nationals, we are grateful to the Chinese Embassy in Ghana and the Confucius Institute for this training for our officials," the official stated.

He added that the most efficient immigration official at entry point is one who can interact with all passengers at language level.

Ofori-Afrifa expressed the hope that as the relationship between Ghana and China kept growing strong, efforts are being made to increase the efficiency of immigration officials in the Chinese language to make for smooth interaction with Chinese investors, state officials and tourists coming to Ghana.

The graduating class put up splendid displays of drama and music in the Chinese language to the admiration of all present.
