TASHKENT, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, a new political party focused on environmental protection was established in the capital city of Tashkent Tuesday.
Boriy Alikhanov, the deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan (the lower house of the parliament), was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Central Council of the party.
"On the same day, members of the Central Council of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan were elected, the program and the party's charter were adopted," the press service of the new party noted.
The party's focus is to ensure that environmental protection is a matter for every citizen of the country.
The predecessor of the party was the "Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan," which was established in 2008 and is dedicated to solving ecological security and environmental protection issues that affect the interests of all sectors of society.
