LUSAKA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government said on Wednesday that it has finalized feasibility studies on the modernization of the country's sole harbor aimed at improving its operations.

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba said the government was keen to upgrade the Mpulungu Harbor, which is situated in the northern part of the country, as it was a gateway to the market of the Great Lakes region in Africa.

According to government figures, cooperating partners invested about 1.4 million U.S. dollars in feasibility studies aimed at increasing the capacity of the harbor.

The Zambian minister said the goal was to develop an efficient and integrated transport system to ensure people's travel convenience countrywide.
