SUVA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Fiji Women's Crisis Center (FWCC) believed more can be done to support the victims of domestic violence this year.

FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali said on Thursday that challenges which the center needs to overcome includes changing mindsets of societies in Fiji.

She said that more awareness needs to be raised to encourage women and girls to come forward and report domestic violence.

"We shall continue our counseling and advocacy work. We want to strengthen our advocacy and work and develop the partnership with government and generally just promote what we always do," Ali said.

The common attitudes and beliefs in Fijian societies are needed to be transformed to ensure people to reject acts of violence against women and girls, she said, adding that education, faith and sports institutions should be channeled towards convincing people that violence is wrong.
