WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- William Barr, President Donald Trump's Attorney General nominee, will pledge at his confirmation hearing to allow Special Counsel Robert Mueller to finish his probe into the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections, according to prepared testimony released on Monday.

"I believe it is in the best interest of everyone -- the President, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people -- that this matter be resolved by allowing the special counsel to complete his work," he said in his prepared written testimony.

"The country needs a credible resolution of these issues. If confirmed, I will not permit partisan politics, personal interests, or any other improper consideration to interfere with this or any other investigation," the written testimony said.

The U.S. Congress and the public should "be informed of the results of the special counsel's work," Barr noted in the document.

Barr was scheduled to testify on Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
