WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- An armed man who entered a UPS processing facility in U.S. state of New Jersey Monday morning and took two women as hostages was shot and injured, a local prosecutor said.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was shot during a rescue operation at the supply chain processing facility in Logan Township before being apprehended and taken to a hospital, Gloucester County Prosecutor Charles Fiore told a press conference.

The extent of the suspect's injuries was not immediately known.

Both hostages worked for UPS and neither suffered injuries, while all other employees got out of the building safely, Fiore said. No law enforcement officers were injured, he added.

The armed suspect entered the UPS facility around 9:00 a.m. and fired shots, though Fiore said no one was struck.

A hostage situation began after the gunman held the hostages in a barricaded room.

"There was apparently a relationship between the man and one of the women," Fiore said, adding that it was a "prior relationship."

UPS said in a statement that the building, located in an industrial district of the south New Jersey township of 6,000, is a bulk mail processing facility.
