SYDNEY, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese star Wang Qiang looked impressive on day two of the Australian Open, making it through the first round of the tournament in straight sets against French hitter Fiona Ferro, 6-4, 6-3.

While the scorching hot Melbourne sun caused problems for many players on Tuesday, according to the 27-year-old, "the hot weather is fine for me, because I've experienced more hot weather than cold weather in my career."

"But I feel I still need to make some adjustments to my game so I look forward to getting more match-time," the Tianjin native told Xinhua after the match.

Although Ferro's "fast movement" and power was difficult to deal with early on, Wang said "I knew I just had to be patient and look for the right opportunities to attack."

Wang will now face world number 61, Aleksandra Krunic, in the second round of the tournament after the Serbian fought back from one set down to win a grueling first round match-up against Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas, 6-3, 5-7, 1-6.
