SOFIA, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese New Year concert with traditional musical instruments titled "Sounds from the Land of Gansu" was held here on Thursday evening in the National Palace of Culture.

During the 85-minute performance of the Gansu Dance Troupe National Orchestra, the Silk Road song of the composer Jiang Ying, as well as Suona and Erhu solo performances among others triggered the applause of the nearly 400 spectators, including Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Culture Amelia Gesheva and Deputy Minister of Tourism Lyuben Kanchev.

The performance of the orchestra from northwest China's Gansu province was jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Sofia, the China Cultural Center in Sofia and Sofia Municipality.

It was part of the annual "Happy Chinese New Year" global celebration campaign launched by China earlier in January.

The campaign, including a series of cultural events celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Spring Festival which falls on Feb. 5 this year, was first initiated in 2010 to promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
