4 Thai cabinet members resign to run in general election

BANGKOK, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Four members of the Thai cabinet tendered resignation on Tuesday to run for MP seats in the March 24 general election.

They submitted letters of resignation on Tuesday which will take effect on Wednesday in order to contest the election under the tickets of Palang Pracharath Party. They are expected to apply for electoral candidacy alongside others next Monday.

The newly-formed party is pitting Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as its top candidate for post-election prime minister.

The four members included Industry Minister and leader of Palang Pracharath Party Uttama Savanayana, Commerce Minister and secretary-general of the party Sontirat Sontijirawong, Science and Technology Minister and deputy leader of the party Suvit Maesincee, and Prime Minister's Office Minister and spokesman of the party Kobsak Pootrakool.
