KIEV, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said on Monday it recorded a "big decrease" in violence in eastern Ukraine last year.

In a Facebook post, the OSCE special monitoring mission noted that it registered 312,554 cease-fire violations last year, which is 22 percent fewer than in 2017.

The number of explosions caused by heavy weaponry, including multiple rocket launch systems, artillery and mortars, went down by 75 percent to 8,470 explosions, it said.

The conflict between government troops and pro-independence armed groups in eastern Ukraine has been raging since April 2014, claiming more than 10,000 lives.
