TOKYO, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as Wall Street's solid overnight lead provided buying impetus, coupled with a comparatively weaker yen against the U.S. dollar which lifted exporter issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 65.61 points, or 0.31 percent, from Monday to 20,949.38.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.09 points, or 0.45 percent, at 1,588.42.
Electric power and gas, nonferrous metal, and chemical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
