Trainee aircraft crashes in India's Maharashtra, pilot injured

NEW DELHI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A trainee aircraft belonging to a private pilot training institute crashed on Tuesday in western Indian state of Maharashtra, officials said.

The pilot of the aircraft was injured after trying to land the plane on the road, leading to its crash. He, according to officials, was immediately removed to a hospital.

The aircraft crashed in Indapur area in Pune district, about 288 km east of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.

"A trainee aircraft belonging to Carver Aviation today took off from an airstrip in Baramati town here and crashed a few minutes later," a police official said.

"The pilot on practice sortie was trying to land the plane on the road after it developed a snag in the engine but it crashed."

Following the incident, locals and police teams rushed to the spot and removed the injured trainee pilot to a hospital.

The cause of the crash, according to officials, was being ascertained.

Last week, two pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were killed after "Mirage-2000" fighter jet they were flying crashed in adjacent Karnataka state.
