TUNIS, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The general strike in the public sector in Tunisia scheduled for Feb. 20-21 has been cancelled, Tunis Afrique Presse reported.

"This general strike, involving some 670,000 civil servants, has been cancelled following the agreement reached between the government and the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) on wage increases," said Tunisian Minister of Social Affairs Mohamed Trabelsi on Thursday evening.

UGTT Secretary-General Noureddine Taboubi described the agreement as a victory for the spirit of high responsibility.

"The spirit of dialogue was the most important factor to the achievement of these positive results," Taboubi said.

The second round of negotiations on wage increases in the public sector would be launched in July 2019, he said.
