KAMPALA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's men's and women's rugby teams have stepped up their preparations ahead of the 2019 World Rugby HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.

The event, which will feature the top Sevens playing teams in the world, will take place on April 5-7.

"The teams are training well for this big Sevens event where they will rub shoulders with the big guns in world rugby," Ramzy Olinga, Uganda Rugby Union (URU) Chief Executive Officer, told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Uganda missed out on qualifying for the Cape Town and Dubai Sevens tournaments.

Charlotte Mudoola, Uganda women's team captain, told Xinhua that they will use the Hong Kong Sevens to gain experience to prepare the team ahead of the Africa Sevens and Olympic qualifiers later this year.

The Uganda Rugby Cranes (the men's team) captain Micheal Wokorach, who also led the team at the 2018 World Cup in the United States, said they are determined to impress this time around in Hong Kong.

"We played in Hong Kong last year and this time we want to perform much better," Wokorach said.

The top ranked teams Uganda will face at the Hong Kong Sevens include England, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa and Australia.
