LONDON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- British Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay on Wednesday ruled out reported delay of Brexit, saying that British Prime Minister Theresa May still plans to carry out planned departure from the European Union (EU) on March 29.

Asked by BBC Radio 4 if May was ready to seek a delay, Barclay replied, "No."

"The prime minister has been very clear that we are committed to leaving on March 29," he said. However, listeners pointed out that fell short of ruling out a delay.

Barclay said the EU may refuse to grant an extension even if requested.

"There is no desire on the European side to see... an 'extension in darkness', where there is no clarity as to why we are extending," he said.

Meanwhile, British treasury minister, Mel Stride, told Sky News that he believes an agreement will be struck, but he added "A no deal is a possibility."

May insists to the British Parliament that her government still plans to exit the EU on March 29 this year.

On Tuesday, the prime minister had once again asked members of parliament to be patient as she seeks to find a breakthrough compromise from her European counterparts.
