ALGIERS, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian army on Saturday arrested an armed "terrorist" in the capital Algiers, the defense ministry said Sunday.

The "terrorist," identified as B. Yacine, is wanted by security services, according to a ministry statement.

The statement did not provide further details on where he was arrested.

A terrorist is rarely arrested in the Algerian capital after security authorities have secured the city for more than a decade.

In addition, the army also arrested a man suspected of providing support to terrorist groups in the northern province of Msila, 250 km south of Algiers.

Located in a region plagued by unprecedented instability, Algeria faces ongoing terrorist threats.
