ARUSHA, Tanzania, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Five people died and three others injured in a road crash in eastern Tanzania's district of Bagamoyo in Coast Region, police said on Monday.
Barnabas Mwakalukwa, acting Police Commander for Coast Region, said that the accident occurred on Sunday around midnight at Makole village on Segera-Chalinze road.
The head-on collision involved a Noah van and a Toyota Hilux.
The regional police chief said: "Initial investigations show that the Noah driver was trying to overtake other vehicles thus falling into head on collision with the Toyota Hilux Car."
The police are still hunting for the Noah driver who escaped soon after the accident.
Mwakalukwa called on drivers to always adhere to traffic regulations when in motor vehicles to avoid accidents arising from reckless driving.
