KABUL, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- More than two dozen people including two civilians have lost their lives due to the ongoing fighting in the conflict-battered Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, officials said Wednesday.

In the latest clash, two militants and two civilians were killed after the armed Taliban fighters attacked a convoy of a private company in the highway linking Jawzjan's provincial capital Shiberghan city to neighboring Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province on Wednesday morning, Farid Aneq, the spokesman for Jawzjan's governor, said.

Similarly, clashes between government forces and the Taliban militants in Jawzjan's neighboring Faryab province have left four militants dead and five others injured since Tuesday.

The security forces, according to army spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai, launched operations against Taliban fighters in Dawlat Abad district of Faryab province on Tuesday. Four insurgents have been killed and five others injured so far.

A total of 10 militants, according an army statement, have been killed elsewhere in eastern Ghazni province over the past 24 hours.

The government forces have also reportedly killed eight militants and injured eight others in Miwand district of Kandahar province, the former stronghold of Taliban in the southern region of Afghanistan. Two more Taliban fighters have also been reportedly killed in northern Baghlan province on Tuesday.

Although there is no report on casualties of the security personnel, a Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, in contact with the media, has claimed casualties on the side of the security personnel over the past 24 hours.

Since the warring sides exaggerate the casualties of their opponents in the ongoing fighting, it is difficult to verify with independent sources in the conflict-hit Afghanistan.
