Regina King of "If Beale Street Could Talk" wins Best Supporting Actress of 91st Oscars

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Regina King of romantic drama film "If Beale Street Could Talk" won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress on Sunday.

King defeated Amy Adams ("Vice"), Marina de Tavira ("Roma"), Emma Stone ("The Favorite") and Rachel Weisz ("The Favorite") in a fierce competition.

In "If Beale Street Could Talk," directed by Barry Jenkins, Regina King portrays Sharon Rivers, a steadfast matriarch devoted to her family and determined to support her pregnant daughter, whose fiancee has been wrongfully imprisoned.

The 91st Academy Awards, or the Oscars, are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor the best films of 2018 in 24 categories.
