MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Security forces stormed a Taliban detention center in the northern Balkh province on Monday and freed 10 police personnel in captivity, an army spokesman said.

"Units of Special Forces raided a detention center of the Taliban group in Joishor area of Chamtal district this morning, and after killing four guards of the notorious center, released 10 police personnel who were illegally kept by the insurgents in their so-called jail," Abdul Hadi Jamal told Xinhua.

The restive Chamtal district in Balkh province with Mazar-e-Sharif as its capital 305 km north of Kabul, has been the scene of bloody fighting between government forces and the Taliban insurgents over the past couple of months.

This is the third attack of security forces on the Taliban detention center over the past couple of months.

Previously, the government forces attacked the Taliban detention centers in the northern Kunduz and southern Helmand provinces and released more than three dozen people including security personnel.

Taliban militants are yet to make comments on the operations.
