KHARTOUM, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Chief Justice, Abdul-Magid Idris, on Tuesday issued a decision to establish emergency courts, at elementary and appeal levels, in all states of Sudan, official SUNA news agency reported.
The establishment of the emergency courts came in accordance with the emergency order issued by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Monday, the report said.
The courts would be tasked with trying defendants accused of violating the provisions of the Criminal Law for 1991, the Emergency and Protection of Public Safety Act, the Emergency Orders issued by the Sudanese president Monday or any crime under any other law, it noted.
The courts are also to apply the rules of emergency court procedures issued by the chief justice earlier.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sudan's Attorney General Omer Ahmed Mohamed issued a decision to establish emergency prosecutions in capital Khartoum and all states of Sudan.
On Feb. 22, Bashir declared the state of emergency all over Sudan for one year in the wake of popular protests which the country has been witnessing since Dec. 19 last year over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
