2 feared killed as IAF fighter jet crashes in Indian-controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- A pilot and a co-pilot of Indian Air Force (IAF) are feared killed after their fighter jet crashed on Wednesday in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The jet crashed at village Garend Kalan of Budgam, about 34km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"An IAF fighter jet crashed here today in an open field. We are being told two casualties have taken place," a police official posted in Budgam told Xinhua. "We have rushed police teams to the spot. Once we get details from them, then only can we confirm," the police said.

Locals said no sooner the jet crashed, it caught fire.

A large crowd of people gathered at the spot following the crash, eyewitnesses said.
