COLOMBO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will face heavy rains and thundershowers over several districts of the island country on Wednesday, the country's Meteorology Department said in its latest weather update.

Fairly heavy rain falls of above 75 millimeters can be expected at some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Hambantota and Matara districts, in the south, the Meteorology Department said.

Thundershowers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Kurunegala, in the north western province and Anuradhapura, in the north central province after Wednesday afternoon.

"There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity," the Meteorology Department said.

Kurunegala, in the north western province, will face the maximum temperature of 35.0 degrees centigrade while the central highlands of Nuwara Eliya will face the minimum temperature of 14.5 degrees centigrade.
