Kenyan leader congratulates Buhari on re-election as Nigeria's president

NAIROBI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election after winning Nigeria's presidential polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria announced early Wednesday that incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, also the candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) party, topped the poll with 55.6 percent of the total valid votes in the presidential election.

In his message, Kenyatta said Buhari's election victory is a clear demonstration of the trust and confidence the people of Nigeria have in his ability to lead the West African nation to greater heights of progress.

"Kenya and Nigeria enjoy longstanding cordial relations and a strong cooperation in many areas," Kenyatta said in his message.

"I look forward to continuing working closely with Your Excellency to in consolidating these mutually beneficial areas of cooperation for the greater good of our two countries," he added.
