North Macedonia, Albania to support one another on Euro-Atlantic path

SKOPJE, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- North Macedonia and Albania will work to promote bilateral relations and pursue the policy of mutual support on the Euro-Atlantic path of both countries, officials declared here Wednesday.

"Albania and North Macedonia have great relations and will continue to support one another on the way of Euro-Atlantic integration," said North Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov during a joint press conference.

On his part, Albania's acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj emphasized that North Macedonia is not only a friendly country but also Albania's partner.

"The Albanians living in North Macedonia are part of the success, beginning from the Ohrid Agreement to Prespa Agreement," Cakaj said.

Furthermore, the two officials discussed extending the bilateral relations as well as cooperation on being a strong voice of support for one another in opening the European Union (EU) accession negotiations.

During his visit in Skopje, Cakaj also held a meeting with North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, where the main focus of their discussions was deepening of bilateral relations, in the light of mechanism of the joint meeting between the two governments and the commitments made with regard to regional cooperation.

Cakaj also met with North Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
