HO CHI MINH CITY, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Over 300 players from 28 countries and regions will compete at the international chess tournament slated for March 7-13 in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, organizers announced Monday.

The weeklong tournament christened HDBank Cup 2019 will see the participation of nine players in the world's top 100, including Chinese chess grandmaster Wang Hao and Argentine grandmaster Mareco Sandro, the Vietnam Chess Federation said, adding that Vietnam's top chess player Le Quang Liem will not compete in the event because he is occupied by another tournament in the United States.

The world's leading woman players, including Stefanova Antoaneta from Bulgaria, Saduakassova Dinara from Kazakhstan and Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova from Uzbekistan will also compete at the tournament.

The tournament's prize is 60,000 U.S. dollars, including 16,000 U.S. dollars for the champion.

The World Chess Federation (FIDE)'s newly-elected president Arkady Dvorkovich and other FIDE officials are scheduled to attend the tournament's closing ceremony on March 13.
