KABUL, March 4 (Xinhua) -- New members of Afghanistan's electoral commissions have been appointed, the Presidential Palace said in a statement released on Monday.

Among 81 candidates 14 of them have been approved by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani as members for Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) for three to five years, according to the statement.

The Afghan parliamentary elections were held on Oct. 20 last year amid alleged rigging as many of the candidates for the parliament have rejected the outcome.

To ensure transparency in the coming presidential elections slated for July 20, President Ghani last month approved an amendment in the electoral law aimed at bringing fundamental change to the electoral bodies that resulted in the immediate dismissal of former commissions' members including the chiefs of the two bodies.

Last year's election results from several constituencies, including Kabul province are yet to be announced, while in some other constituencies the results have been challenged as fake.
