KIEV, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The National Police of Ukraine said on Monday it had opened 117 election-related criminal cases since the start of the presidential election campaign on Dec. 31, 2018.

Out of the total number, 64 cases are linked to the election campaign itself, while the rest are related to the violations of the electoral law, said a statement on the police website.

The police informed 19 people about suspicion of committing electoral crimes.

The presidential election in Ukraine is scheduled for March 31.

A record number of 44 candidates have registered to compete in the election, but last week two hopefuls, Andriy Sadovyy and Dmytro Gnap, said they would withdraw from the race. However, the country's Central Electoral Commission has not yet confirmed their withdrawal.
