LUSAKA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- About 27,000 jobs were created by small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia last year, the country's government said on Friday.

It was evident that the SMEs were contributing positively to Zambian economy due to the large number of jobs they were creating, said Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Christopher Yaluma.

The SMEs, Yaluma said, were involved in various investments, adding values to raw materials, which contributed to the government's industrialization agenda.

Zambia was now able to manufacture export products particularly in the agro-processing subsector, he said, adding that he felt optimistic about the reforms the government was implementing towards an industrialized country.
