TUNIS, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Health Minister Abderraouf Cherif submitted his resignation after the death of 11 newborn babies in a hospital in the capital city, Tunisian news agency TAP reported.

Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed accepted the resignation.

The newborns were reportedly dead in Rabta Hospital on Thursday and Friday.

Preliminary reports revealed that the babies died because of "septic shock resulting from blood infections," media reports said.

Tunisian Labour Union called for transparency in the ongoing investigations and letting the people of Tunisia know the truth.
