KIEV, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said Tuesday that it is very important for Ukraine to continue upgrading its energy efficiency, the government press service said.

While speaking during an energy forum in Kiev, Groysman said that better energy efficiency would allow Ukraine to achieve energy independence and would help to improve the lives of ordinary people through providing better services.

The Ukrainian government set the improvement of the country's energy efficiency as one of the priority tasks for its cadence.

According to the cabinet's press service, between 2014 and 2018, the new facilities with a capacity to generate 2.2 GW of heating energy from alternative sources were installed in Ukraine. Those facilities have attracted an investment of about 500 million euros (about 564 million U.S. dollars).

Besides, over the past four years, Ukraine's budget institutions, district heating providers and households have reduced their gas consumption by 24 percent.
