KIEV, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will not install cameras at polling stations to monitor the voting process of the forthcoming presidential elections in Ukraine, a senior CEC official said here on Friday.

"Video surveillance at polling stations is not envisaged by any law, including the law on the election of the president of Ukraine, therefore such video surveillance will not be conducted," Eugene Radchenko, the deputy head of the CEC, was quoted as saying by the government-run Ukrinform news agency.

However, state and local governing bodies have the right to install cameras inside the polling stations for security purposes, he added.

Ukraine will hold presidential elections on March 31 at some 29,800 polling stations in 199 electoral districts across the country.

About 131,500 law enforcement personnel will be deployed to ensure security at the elections.
