SKOPJE, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air announced on Monday the launch of a new twice-weekly direct flight between Ohrid Airport in North Macedonia and Malmo in Sweden.

On Tuesday, the company will also launch a new route from Ohrid to Milan in Italy.

Present at the announcement, Goran Sugareski, North Macedonia's minister of transport and communication, told reporters Wizz Air is set to introduce a total of four new routes this month.

"I expect the growth trend in the number of passengers, recorded in the initial statistics in the first two months of this year, to continue with the launch of the new routes," Sugareski said.

Wizz Air has won a tender for low-cost airlines issued by the North Macedonian government to operate flights to eight destinations from Skopje and Ohrid Airports.

Wizz Air entered the Macedonian market in 2011.
