JAKARTA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The anti-terror squad of the Indonesian national police has arrested an alleged militant, a member of a terrorist cell linked with the IS terrorist group in Syria who had plotted terrorists strikes, police said here on Wednesday.

M Abu Arkam was a member of an outlawed Jemaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD), which is an allegiance of the IS terrorist group in Syria, national police spokesman Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said.

Arkam was nabbed in Berau of East Kalimantan province on Tuesday before he could launch attacks on police personnel and civilians, the spokesman said.

"The man has plotted terrorist strikes, targeting police. Besides, he also planned to attack anybody who has harmed the reputation of the IS group," Prasetyo unveiled.

The spokesman said that the man aimed to hasten his terrorist plots due to the arrest of seven of his militant fellows in Sibolga town of North Sumatra province and Lampung province in recent days.
