SEOUL, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The top diplomats of South Korea and the United States planned to meet in Washington later this week to discuss countermeasures following the second summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha was slated to have a bilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington on Friday (Washington time), according to the Seoul ministry.

During the meeting, Kang and Pompeo will assess situations and discuss countermeasures after the second DPRK-U.S. summit while exchanging opinions on broad issues of mutual concern from the bilateral, regional and global perspectives.

The second summit between top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump ended with no agreement in late February at the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.

After the summit, South Korea has vowed to broker a compromise between Pyongyang and Washington and help resume talks for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
