PARIS, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Substitute Martin Terrier's late goal gifted Lyon a 1-0 road victory over Rennes to cut the deficit from second-placed Lille in Ligue 1 on Friday.

Terrier, who came off the bench midway through the second half, poked home a cross from Leo Dubois on the right flank with four minutes from time.

Lyon skipper Nabil Fekir had a free-kick parried by goalkeeper Tomas Koubek onto the post in the 13th minute.

As the visitors looked for a deadlock-breaking goal, Memphis Depay and Fekir saw their shots wide in a span of two minutes.

Lyon began to take charge of the match, and Terrier's goal proved to be decisive for their attempt to grab the second place and an automatic spot in next season's Champions League.

Lyon have closed up to a point behind Lille, who will visit Nantes on Sunday.

Sitting atop the table with a seemingly unassilable 20-point advantage, Paris Saint-Germain will also put on their duel against Toulouse on Sunday.
