NANNING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- China should take a long-term approach and develop their soccer with patience, said Chinese national team head coach Cannavaro following his side's 1-0 loss to Thailand at China Cup on Thursday.

The 46-year-old Italian, who was appointed as China head coach last Friday, said he should not be expected to bring significant changes to his team over five days.

"No magics can be made in just five days, at least I cannot do that," he said.

Cannavaro said Chinses football should dig deep to find reasons for their failure.

"China now has the financial power to bring the best coach to manage its team, but it can not bring any improvement overnight. You need to set up a system and develop soccer in a long run," he said.

"China cannot improve with only good tactics, I found that problem during this year's Asian Cup. And what I saw today confirmed my judgement," he said.

China, under the guidance of Marcello Lippi, rallied to beat Thailand 2-1 in the final 16 of Asian Cup in January, but lost to Iran 3-0 in the quarterfinals.
