YANGON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Eight construction workers out of 13, kidnapped by ethnic insurgent group the Arakan Army(AA) in Paletwa township, Myanmar's Rakhine state, were still held captive, after five were released, said the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services late on Tuesday.

A 170-strong AA group abducted 13 employees of the private Su Htoo San Construction Company working on a road construction site at Twinkin Alaung village in Paletwa township last Saturday and destroyed vehicles being used for the Paletwa-Mizoram road project.

Of the 13 workers, five were released on Monday, leaving eight still held.

Earlier on March 16, the AA insurgents torched a vessel carrying steel frames for the Paletwa bridge project on the same road.

The AA group has been attacking civilian targets to harm regional stability and disrupt administrative machinery, said the military release, adding that the security forces are carrying out operation around areas where such incidents were reported.

Meanwhile, a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on Minpya township of the state by local authorities beginning Tuesday.
