NEW DELHI, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A moderate earthquake Thursday hit India's northeastern state of Manipur, officials said.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 1:15 p.m. (local time).

"The epicenter of the earthquake was district Senapati in Manipur located at 25.4 degrees north latitude and 94.3 degrees east longitude," the information released by Indian Meteorological Department said. "The depth of the earthquake was 50 km."

Senapati is about 123 km north of Imphal, the capital city of Manipur.

Officials said tremors of the earthquake were felt across the state including capital city Imphal. However, there were no immediate reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.

In 2016 an earthquake measuring 6.7 on Richter scale hit Manipur and adjoining areas, killing eight people and damaging around 100 houses.

On Monday 20 earthquakes ranging from light to moderate levels hit India's Nicobar Islands.

The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean, located at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.
